What type of background should an attorney have to help sell my business?

Depending upon the size of the transaction there are generally two types of attorneys involved in the selling process. The first one is a transactional attorney and they have the responsibility to write the purchase and sale agreement and review all documents involving the sale. The other attorney is a tax/estate attorney. Their responsibility is to minimize the tax burden after you have received the money. They usually write wills, trusts and tax sheltering documents.

What are good sources to find these types of attorneys?

Many times the transactional attorney can handle the sale without the aid of a tax attorney if the seller's CPA is involved in the transaction. This would depend upon the complexity of the sale.
